In her thirty years of diving, she's never seen anyone do everything perfectly by accident. Cass runs Lower Depths Dive at the less-glamorous end of the Key Largo marina, and she knows the local dive community the way she knows the reefs — every current, every shadow, every thing that doesn't quite belong. The more she looks at what happened on the Spiegel Grove, the more she finds things that don't belong. Her ex-husband thinks she's projecting. Officer Reyes thinks she should leave it alone. Jonah Pike, her most reliable charter captain, thinks she's probably right. Cass has learned to trust the water. She's starting to trust her instincts about what happened beneath it.

Which is why, when someone does manage to disappear here, it usually means they had help. Cass isn't a detective. She runs a dive shop, certifies recreational divers, and occasionally argues with the marina harbormaster about dock fees. But she's also someone who notices when the story doesn't match the dive log. And this story doesn't match.

About the Series
The Cass Mercer Mystery Series is set in Key Largo and the Florida Keys — a world of warm water, tight-knit dive communities, and the kind of small-town dynamics that make secrets both harder to keep and harder to find. Each book is a standalone mystery, though characters and relationships deepen across the series. The diving in these books is technically accurate because the author is a certified scuba instructor with over thirty years of experience. The fish are real. The wrecks are real. The murders are fictional.
